Lakeland Travel Guide
Welcome to Lakeland!
As the name suggests, Lakeland contains numerous lakes, with close to 40 within the city limits alone. Conveniently located just one hour from Orlando and 40 minutes from the Tampa Bay Area, Lakeland is a popular gateway stay in Florida—s Central Lakes region, but is not lacking in attractions of its own. Home to the Florida Southern College campus, Lakeland boasts one of the world's largest collections of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. Much of the city was built during Florida's boom of the 1920s, which can be seen in Lakeland's many historic areas, including the Lake Morton Historic District, the Polk Theater and the Lake Mirror Promenade. In the summer, a popular activity is watching the Detroit Tigers prepare for the beginning of the baseball season, as its affiliate team, the Lakeland Tigers, plays at the Joker Marchant Stadium. Families pass time at one of Lakeland's many parks, the Explorations V Children's Museum and the Sun 'n Fun Florida Air Museum.
